A Linguistic Adventure

By Gaby Von & Claire Honda

Welcome to Neurotropolis,
the city of the brain!

Embark on an adventure through a neural cityscape, where every twist and turn unveils the secrets of language processing. Along the way, you’ll explore various city regions and witness how the connections between them must flexibly adapt in response to unforeseen change.

Are you ready to restore the city’s linguistic glory?

Build Neural Pathways

Connect destinations inspired by real brain regions. The city is mapped from flattened brain models used by neuroscientists. Each destination represents an actual brain area, placed according to its real anatomical location.

Unlock Brain Powers

Use cognitive abilities to shape powerful strategies. Action cards let you place tracks and interact with the board. Each move reflects real cognitive processes, turning neuroscience into strategic play.

Face Unexpected Challenges

Every round, players are met with events that affect the brain in unforeseeable ways. They must face individual and group challenges to protect their neural networks.

All while learning about

When science meets play:
This competitive game utilizes fun strategy as a means to demonstrate that play can be an effective way of disseminating information about a complex topic like neurolinguistics.

ABOUT THE GAME

Neurotropolis: A Linguistic Adventure is a board game co-created by neuroscientist Claire Honda and designer Gaby Von. Born from a shared passion for science communication and fostering human connection, the game blends neuroscience and play to explore how language is processed in the brain, while conveying concepts of neurodiversity and neuroplasticity.

To date, Neurotropolis exists in two hand-crafted editions, developed independently by the creators. What began as a university collaboration has grown into a passion project showcased at science conferences and events. Encouraged by strong community interest, the duo is now working toward making Neurotropolis accessible to a wider audience.
